Applying for an RCMP Criminal Record Check from Karachi? This is what you will learn in this blog: how to get your fingerprints taken correctly, fingerprint submission steps from Karachi to Canada, and how the whole process moves once your card leaves Karachi. You will also learn about realistic timelines and the common mistakes that delay applications sent from here.
To get an RCMP Criminal Record Check from Karachi, you first need to get your fingerprints taken on the official C-216C card by a trained professional, since the RCMP does not accept prints taken on any other format. That completed card then needs to be mailed to an RCMP-accredited agency in Canada, since the RCMP does not accept submissions sent directly from outside the country. The agency digitizes your prints and submits them electronically to the RCMP for processing, and once your result comes back, it is sent back to you in Karachi, usually through the same accredited agency.

An RCMP criminal record check is an official Canadian document that states whether a person has a criminal record in Canada. It comes from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which runs the national database of criminal records from its office in Ottawa. It covers Canada only. It says nothing about your record in Pakistan or anywhere else.
The version most authorities want is the certified check, also called the fingerprint-based check. A name-based check searches using only your name and date of birth, which makes it faster but less reliable for official use. A fingerprint check compares the ridges on your ten fingers against the database. Two people can share a name and a birth year. They cannot share fingerprints.
That is why immigration offices and licensing bodies ask for the certified check. It ties the result to you and not to someone with a similar name.
Other Names For It
The document has one official name and many casual ones. Your requester may use any of these, and they usually mean the same thing:
Canada's immigration department says a police certificate is a copy of your criminal record or a statement that you have none, and in Canada that document is the Criminal Record Check.

Just be careful with "police check" or "police information check." Those are usually name-based checks from a local Canadian police service, and they may not be accepted for immigration or visas.
Related Documents Karachi Readers Often Confuse
In Karachi, "police clearance" can mean three or four different papers. People sometimes collect the wrong one, then lose weeks when the requester rejects it. This is what each document is and what it covers.
Pakistani Police Clearance (FIA)
This is a record of your history in Pakistan, not Canada. There are two kinds:
Embassies and immigration offices usually ask for the FIA version. Sindh Police also runs an online verification system for character certificates.
Vulnerable Sector Check
This is an extra-detailed Canadian check for people who work or volunteer with children, seniors or other vulnerable people. It adds a search for record-suspended (pardoned) sexual offences. It must be done by the local police in Canada, and results go only to organizations located in Canada. An agency cannot get it for you from Karachi.
Other Countries' Police Certificates
Every country issues its own. The US uses the FBI Identity History Summary, the UK uses an ACRO certificate, and Australia uses a National Police Certificate. The RCMP criminal record check cannot replace any of these, and none of them replace the RCMP check.
Where does the RCMP criminal record check fit in? If you have lived in Canada, whether as a student, worker or family member, expect to be asked for it on top of your Pakistani certificate. The usual rule is that immigration authorities want a certificate from every country where you lived for six months or longer since turning 18. Officers can also ask for one after a shorter stay if they think it is needed. If Canada is anywhere in your past, plan for this document early.
Can You Apply from Karachi? What Actually Works
Yes. You do not need to travel to Canada. You get your fingerprints taken in Karachi, send the original paper card to a company in Canada, and that company submits your application to the RCMP.
The one thing you cannot do is mail your fingerprints straight to the RCMP. All fingerprint-based applications must go through a company accredited to submit to the RCMP's system, and electronic fingerprint capture is only allowed inside Canada. From abroad, this means getting a paper set of prints first, then having an accredited Canadian company convert it to digital and send it in.
The Role of an RCMP-Accredited Agency in Canada
An accredited agency is the bridge between your ink fingerprint card in Karachi and the RCMP's digital system in Ottawa. It receives your original card and documents, then checks that the prints are clear, the forms are complete and your IDs match your details.
Once everything is in order, the agency scans your card, converts it to a digital file and submits it electronically to the RCMP. It also pays the RCMP fee and tracks the file. When the RCMP finishes, the certificate comes back to the agency in Canada. The agency then couriers it to your address in Pakistan, or to another address if you signed a third-party consent form.
In Karachi, you will usually find two kinds of providers:
Whichever route you pick, ask for the name of the Canadian company that will actually submit your file. Then check that it is on the RCMP's list of private accredited fingerprint companies.

An RCMP criminal record check is required for people who now live in Karachi but spent six months or more in Canada and need to prove their Canadian background. The main groups are:
Step 1: Choose an Accredited Agency
Start with an agency accredited by the RCMP. This is the company that will submit your fingerprints, so check its accreditation before you pay anything.
Once you apply, the agency sends you written guidelines and a fingerprinting kit. Agencies typically supply an application package with instructions, a card scan application, a fingerprint form, a payment form and a checklist. The kit usually includes the official fingerprint cards.
Step 2: Get Ink Fingerprints Taken in Karachi
Do not try to take your own fingerprints. The RCMP does not accept self-taken prints. Your prints must be taken by a trained professional who signs the card at the end. The card needs all ten fingers in black ink, the name and address of the agency where you were fingerprinted, and the name and signature of the official who took them.
Step 3: Prepare Documents and Courier to Canada
Put the following in one package, using the exact list your agency gives you:
Step 4: RCMP Processing
The RCMP checks your fingerprints against its national criminal records database. If there is no match, results usually take 3 business days or less. If there is a possible match or manual processing is needed, it can take up to 120 business days. That is about five to six months. These timelines do not include international courier time to and from Karachi.
Check How Long Does a Canadian Criminal Record Check Take
When the RCMP finishes, the certificate goes to the agency in Canada. From there, it is couriered to your address in Karachi, or to your named third party.
Step 5: Apostille (If Required)
An apostille is an official stamp that lets a Canadian document be accepted in other countries that belong to the Hague Apostille Convention. Canada joined the convention on January 11, 2024, and Pakistan is also a member, so an apostille is used for Canadian public documents used in Pakistan.
RCMP criminal record checks are apostilled by Global Affairs Canada in Ottawa. The government does not charge a fee for it, though you pay for courier costs. If the country is not a Hague member, the document may need authentication and embassy legalization instead.
You have four realistic options in Karachi. All of them need to give you the same result: clear ink and roll prints on the official card, with a signature and stamp. Your agency's guidelines come first, so confirm with them before you go.
Option 1: Sindh Police Fingerprint Bureau / Forensics Division (Garden)
The Fingerprint Bureau of the Forensics Division at Sindh Police Headquarters in Garden, South Karachi is one of the offices used for this. It is a police-run office with experience in taking full sets of prints, and it is the option people usually try first.
Option 2: Gazdarabad Police HQ
Gazdarabad Police Headquarters in Karachi is another police office agencies list for fingerprinting. It can be a better choice if you live on the east side of the city, since Garden is a long drive from areas like Gulshan, Malir or Korangi.
Option 3: Private Fingerprinting Service Providers
Private fingerprinting providers in Karachi take ink fingerprints on official cards for people who want a smoother, more organized visit. You book a time slot and walk in. The wait is usually shorter than at a government office.
The staff are trained to roll each finger fully and evenly, which is what a clean card needs. Many providers also help you fill in the details on the card and check that nothing is missing before you leave. That saves you from finding a mistake after the card has already reached Canada.
Ask whether they will retake a print if it comes out smudged, and check the card yourself before you leave. Fees are usually higher than at a police office, but many people find the appointment and the help with the forms worth it.
Option 4: Mobile or Doorstep Fingerprinting
With doorstep fingerprinting, a trained person comes to your home or office with the official card, black ink and everything else needed to take your prints. It is a practical choice if you would rather not cross Karachi's traffic and heat for a fingerprinting appointment.
It works well for busy professionals, older family members and anyone who finds travel difficult. It also suits families, since several people can be fingerprinted in one visit.
Doorstep service usually costs more than going to an office, and the price depends on your area and how many people are being fingerprinted. To get the best result, keep your IDs ready and choose a well-lit spot with a clean, flat table. Wash and dry your hands just before the visit and skip hand cream.
Very little of the total goes to the RCMP. Most of your money goes to the steps around it, like getting proper prints, two international courier trips and, if your requester asks, the apostille.
| Stage | Estimated cost |
| Fingerprinting: government office | PKR 0 to 1,000 |
| Fingerprinting: private provider | PKR 3,000 to 10,000 |
| International courier: Karachi to Canada | PKR 7,000 to 15,000 |
| Accredited agency service fee | CAD 105 to 150 |
| RCMP processing fee | CAD 25 |
| Canada apostille by Global Affairs Canada | No government fee |
| International courier: Canada to Karachi | PKR 7,000 to 15,000 |
| End-to-end service providers in Pakistan | PKR 45,000 to 75,000 without apostille; PKR 70,000 to 110,000 with apostille |
Note: These prices are current as of 2026 and are estimates. Fees can change at any time, and official authorities like the RCMP and Global Affairs Canada may update theirs without notice. Agency, courier and fingerprinting rates also vary by provider, and exchange rates move daily. Please confirm the latest prices with each provider before you pay.
How Do I Pay a Canadian Agency from Pakistan?
Most Canadian agencies bill in Canadian dollars and take card payments. That means your card needs to work internationally, and many Pakistani cards are not set up for this by default.
Most Pakistani bank cards ship with international payments switched off, and the international spending limit is separate from the domestic one and may be set to zero. Follow these steps:
Foreign currency payments on Pakistani cards are converted to rupees at the bank's rate and can carry foreign transaction charges, so the final amount may differ slightly from your calculation.
If your card doesn't work, you have other routes. Ask whether a Karachi partner firm accepts PKR by bank transfer. A relative or friend abroad can pay on your behalf if the agency allows it. You can also ask about a bank wire or an international money transfer, or a virtual international card from your bank if it offers one.
Just make sure to pay only against a proper invoice in the company's registered name. Avoid sending money to personal accounts or unofficial WhatsApp numbers.
Smudged or Incomplete Prints
Unclear fingerprints and incomplete forms can stop an application before it even reaches the RCMP database. The usual causes are too much ink, too little ink, fingers that slide during rolling, or a missing finger box.
Ask the operator to roll each finger fully from nail edge to nail edge, and check the card under light before you leave. If anything looks blurry or faint, ask for a redo on a spare card. It is better to spend ten extra minutes now than to redo the whole process later.
Missing Signature or Agency Stamp
The card is only valid when the person who took your prints has signed it and added their name. The agency's name and address must also be on the card. Some agencies look specifically for a signature and stamp from the police or authorized official.
Before you leave the office, check that all three are present and readable. If a stamp is too faint, ask them to press it again. Cards without these details are one of the most common reasons an agency asks you to start over.
Name Spelling Mismatches (CNIC vs Passport)
Karachi names tend to appear in slightly different forms across documents. Qureshi and Quraishi, Siddiqui and Siddiqi, or Hussain and Hussein are common examples. A missing middle name or father's name can also make the same person look different on paper. Your CNIC, passport and Canadian documents may not match each other.
Use the name exactly as it appears on your IDs, and match it to the name you used in Canada. If you have used other spellings, previous names or a married name there, tell the agency at the start.
Applying for a Name-Based Check When Fingerprints Are Required
Some applicants order a cheaper name-based check from a local Canadian police service or an online provider, then find it is not accepted. A name-based check is sometimes submitted by mistake, and it is not acceptable for most official purposes. Immigration offices, foreign embassies and licensing bodies usually want the certified, fingerprint-based one.

Sending the Wrong ID or Unclear Scans
Agencies need two valid government IDs, and at least one must have your photo. A passport and a CNIC work for most people. Expired IDs, cropped corners, dark scans and blurry phone photos are a common cause of delays.
Scan or photograph the full document in good light, with all four corners visible and all text readable. Send the scans before you post the originals, so the agency can spot problems early. Some agencies confirm the fingerprint format from your scan before asking you to mail the originals.

Sometimes a certified check takes much longer than expected. The most common reason is a possible match, which means the RCMP's system found something that a person needs to review by hand.
A possible match does not mean you have a criminal record. It means the system couldn't be sure at first glance. The RCMP says checks that need manual processing or involve a possible match can take up to 120 business days, and sometimes longer if information is incomplete or needs clarifying with local police. That is roughly five to six months, before you add courier time to and from Karachi.
What to Do While You Wait
Can You Speed It Up?
Not really. The RCMP completes requests in the order they arrive, and it asks people to contact the fingerprint records unit only after the stated processing time has passed. If your file goes past that time, you can ask your agency to follow up on your behalf.
If You Do Have a Canadian Record
If you know of a past charge or conviction in Canada, tell the requesting authority upfront and get advice from a licensed Canadian immigration lawyer or consultant before you apply. Hiding a record is usually far riskier than the record itself. This is general information, not legal advice.

People in Karachi sometimes assume that because Canada and Pakistan are both English-speaking systems on paper, this process should feel more familiar than it does. It does not, mainly because the accreditation rule removes any local shortcut entirely. No Karachi office, however official it looks, can finish this for you. That single fact is something you should accept early on, since it changes who you should actually be looking for.
