You have accepted a position with a U.S. broker-dealer. The onboarding team has started your registration, and an email from compliance suddenly asks for your fingerprints.
If your office sits in Hinjawadi’s Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, at Magarpatta City, or along the Kharadi corridor, you are far from the first person in Pune to see it. FINRA fingerprinting in Pune is routine for teams supporting U.S. securities operations, but the rules around it are not: a 30-day Form U4 clock, a specific ink card, and no electronic submission from India.
This blog explains the full process: booking the appointment, meeting the deadline, where you should mail your card, and what it costs.
Yes. If you are based in Pune, your fingerprints can be collected locally in ink on a FINRA-compliant hardcopy fingerprint card.
The completed card then becomes part of the fingerprint submission managed by your FINRA member firm, funding portal, or another qualifying organisation. Because fingerprints collected outside the United States cannot be submitted electronically through the ordinary domestic EFS route, overseas applicants generally use hardcopy cards.
The important part is sequence. You should first obtain your firm’s instructions and correct identifying information. Only then should you arrange fingerprint collection in Pune.
FINRA administers a fingerprint programme used by regulated firms to meet requirements under Section 17(f)(2) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Exchange Act Rule 17f-2.
The fingerprints are processed through the programme for an FBI criminal history record search. The resulting status is then made available to the entitled users of the sponsoring firm through the Central Registration Depository, commonly called CRD.
This requirement supports regulatory screening. It is not the same as:
Even though some of these processes use fingerprints, one cannot automatically replace another. FINRA currently instructs firms to continue using fingerprints collected and submitted specifically through the FINRA Fingerprint Program. Fingerprints captured for another statutory or personal purpose should not be repurposed for FINRA registration.

| Your situation | Why you have been asked |
| Joining a FINRA member broker-dealer | Rule 17f-2 may make fingerprinting part of onboarding for covered personnel at member firms. |
| Moving into a role that requires a Form U4 filing | The U4 filing starts the 30-day fingerprint clock, so the request arrives with the role change. |
| Transferring between regulated firms | Current FINRA procedures may require a fresh submission for the new firm’s filing. |
| Working for the Indian office or affiliate of a U.S. financial institution | The rule follows the firm's registration, not your location. |
| Handling securities, money, or original books and records | Direct access to assets is exactly what the screening exists for. |
| Supervising people who sell securities or access protected financial records | Supervising a covered function may also place the role within the fingerprint requirement. |
| Joining a funding portal, transfer agent, or clearing agency | FINRA administers fingerprint processing for these covered organisations as well. |
| Supporting a regulated U.S. financial operation from India | Back-office and GCC roles may be covered when the work touches securities functions. |
Not necessarily.
Your first call should be to the firm’s registration or compliance team. A technically excellent fingerprint card can still be unusable when it is missing the firm information required to connect it with the correct registration file.
Before booking FINRA fingerprinting in Pune, ask your employer for:
Do not guess the firm number, replace it with an employee ID, or copy details from an old registration. The information must match the current sponsoring organisation.
Why Does the 30-Day Timeline Matter?
When a FINRA member files an electronic Form U4 for someone applying for registration, the firm must promptly submit that person’s fingerprint information.
If FINRA does not receive the fingerprints within 30 days after receiving the Form U4, the registration is generally changed to Inactive Prints. The person must stop activities that require registration while that status remains inactive. This deadline belongs to the firm, but your appointment and courier are part of the same clock.
The safest approach is to work backwards:
| Stage | Time You Should Allow |
| Obtain the correct card and firm details | Before booking |
| Schedule fingerprinting in Pune | As early as possible |
| Review and hand over the card | Immediately after collection |
| International courier | Allow for weekends and transit delays |
| FINRA intake and processing | Outside the applicant’s control |
| Additional fingerprints if rejected | A new 30-day period may apply |
Do not wait until day 25 to begin looking for a fingerprint provider. International delivery alone can consume a large part of the remaining time.

The process is easier to understand when the applicant’s responsibility is separated from the firm’s responsibility.
| Stage | Who Handles It? | What Happens? |
| Registration instruction | Sponsoring firm | Confirms that fingerprints are required |
| Form U4 and firm information | Sponsoring firm | Creates or updates the registration record |
| Fingerprint collection | Applicant and trained collector | Ink impressions are captured in Pune |
| Card review | Applicant, collector, and firm | Required fields and print quality are checked |
| Overseas mailing | Firm or applicant, as instructed | Card is sent through the approved route |
| FINRA programme processing | FINRA and its designated provider | Fingerprints are forwarded for FBI processing |
| Status review | Sponsoring firm | Result appears in CRD for entitled users |
Step 1: Confirm the Requirement with Your Firm
Ask your compliance team whether you are being fingerprinted for an initial registration, transfer, resubmission, or another organisational requirement.
This matters because a person whose earlier fingerprints were rejected may be working under a new 30-day resubmission deadline rather than completing an ordinary first submission.Step 2: Obtain the Correct FINRA-Compliant Fingerprint Card
FINRA states that fingerprints collected outside the United States or its territories must be captured on a FINRA-compliant card. A generic Indian fingerprint sheet or a card intended for an FBI personal background check should not be substituted without written confirmation from the firm.
Your employer may send the physical card, arrange for one through its provider, or ask the fingerprinting company to supply the correct version.
Confirm this before the appointment.
Step 3: Book a Trained Ink Fingerprint Appointment in Pune
Electronic FINRA fingerprint collection through the domestic EFS network is generally designed around participating providers and equipment operating within the United States.
An applicant in Pune therefore normally needs rolled ink impressions on the approved hardcopy card. The collector should understand:
FINRA recommends using a law enforcement agency or a fingerprint-trained individual for fingerprints taken outside the United States.
Step 4: Review Every Field Before the Card Leaves Pune
The fingerprint image is only one part of the card. The personal and organisational fields also matter.
Check that the card contains the required information supplied by your firm, which may include:
Write clearly and remain inside the relevant fields. Do not highlight sections of the card, cover printed information with labels, or alter completed fields using correction fluid.
Your firm should review the completed card before it is couriered. FINRA notes that firms remain responsible for submitting cards containing the required information, and deficient cards may not be returned.
FINRA forwards eligible overseas hardcopy cards to its designated fingerprint provider. The fingerprints are then processed for an FBI criminal history record search, and the disposition is returned through the FINRA Fingerprint Program.
For broker-dealer firms, fingerprint results are automatically uploaded into CRD. The firm’s authorised compliance or registration users can review the status and take the required next step.
Common statuses include:
| Status | What It Generally Means |
| CLER | No arrest record was found for that fingerprint transaction |
| RAPP | Criminal History Record Information was returned for firm review |
| COMP | FINRA completed its review of returned record information |
| ILEG | The FBI found the fingerprints illegible |
| REJT | The submission was rejected and another set may be required |
| INACTIVE PRINTS | Required fingerprints were not received within the applicable period |
A fingerprint result is not a hiring decision. The firm handles the information according to its regulatory, legal, and internal compliance responsibilities.
When the FBI returns an illegible or rejected result, the person’s registration status may move back to Approved Pending Prints, and a fresh 30-day period begins for another submission.
If another set is not received within that period, the registration may move to Inactive Prints, requiring the person to suspend regulated business activities.
After repeated qualifying illegible submissions, FINRA may request an FBI biographical verification, previously called a Name Check. That manual process takes considerably longer, and the timing depends on FBI workloads rather than any fixed schedule.
This is why the Pune appointment should include a careful visual review before the card leaves the applicant’s hands.
Dry skin, worn ridges, cuts, excessive moisture, heavy manual work, and movement during rolling can all affect print quality. Tell the collector about any difficulties before the first impression is taken.
The total cost usually has three separate parts:
| Cost Component | Who Usually Pays? |
| Fingerprint collection in Pune | Applicant or employer |
| International courier | Applicant or employer |
| FINRA and FBI processing fees | Assessed to the sponsoring firm |
FINRA currently lists the combined charge for a hardcopy fingerprint transaction as USD 40, consisting of a USD 30 FINRA fee and a USD 10 FBI fee. The firm is generally assessed through FINRA’s billing system. Local fingerprint collection, card supply, and international courier are separate costs. Fees can change, so the firm should confirm the current amount before submission.
Note: Fees are subject to change. Confirm current amounts with your firm or directly on FINRA's website before submission.
Booking Before Receiving the Firm’s Instructions
You may attend an appointment without the correct card, firm CRD number, or reason for fingerprinting.
Mailing the Overseas Card Directly to First Advantage
Current instructions route cards sent from outside the United States through FINRA first.
Leaving the Firm Information Blank
The card must connect to the sponsoring organisation and registration record. The collector should not invent this information.
Treating the Fingerprinting Provider as the Registration Sponsor
A fingerprinting provider captures the prints. It does not file your Form U4, monitor your CRD record, determine exemptions, or interpret the FBI result.
Reusing Fingerprints from Another Background Check
FINRA currently requires firms to follow the existing Fingerprint Program. Previously collected fingerprints from another purpose cannot be reused as a substitute.
Sending Multiple Duplicate Cards Together
FINRA does not process duplicate cards and does not return them, and charges may still apply. Submit only what the firm requests.
Ignoring a Resubmission Notice
An illegible result starts another time-sensitive compliance step. The new appointment should be booked immediately.
Globeia provides mobile ink fingerprint collection for finance professionals and corporate teams across Pune. A trained associate visits the applicant’s home, office, or another agreed location with the required fingerprinting equipment for the appointment.

1. Book Through the SmartForm
Enter your service requirements, preferred location, and appointment details through Globeia's SmartForm. Your identity is digitally verified before the appointment to ensure a secure and compliant process.
2. Confirm the Firm’s Instructions

Appointments happen where you are: home, office, or co-working space.
4. Review the Impressions
Each impression is visually checked for clarity, placement, and completeness. Unclear impressions can be retaken during the appointment.
This review helps identify visible problems before the card enters the firm’s submission process, but final processing and acceptance are determined by FINRA, its designated provider, and the FBI.5. Receive the Completed Card
The completed fingerprint card is provided to the applicant or the authorised employer representative for submission according to the firm’s instructions. Globeia does not replace the sponsoring firm’s compliance or registration responsibilities. Globeia does not submit fingerprints to FINRA or manage regulatory filings.
6. Receive Globeia’s Letter of Identity Verification
After the appointment, the applicant receives an exclusive Globeia document confirming that the fingerprints were collected by a trained associate following rigorous identity verification protocols, complete with a unique encrypted QR code for tamper-proof authentication.
Bring:
Make sure the spelling of your name matches the identity information supplied to the firm. Do not shorten middle names or switch between different passport and employment-record spellings without first speaking to compliance
Whether you are reading this between meetings in a Hinjawadi tower or from your flat in Baner, the checklist stays the same: the correct card, clean impressions, and a firm that files on time.
FINRA fingerprinting in Pune is not difficult once the responsibilities are clear. Your firm manages the registration, deadline, submission, and CRD status. Your job is to obtain the correct card, provide accurate details, and ensure the fingerprints are captured properly.
