Getting a document apostilled starts with the original or an official version of the document itself. From there, it's submitted to whichever authority provides authentication: the Office of the Secretary of State, the United States Department of State in Washington, DC, or an embassy or consulate. Globeia works with all of these, depending on what your specific document requires.

The first question is always:Where was the document issued?

Issued by one of the fifty states, or the District of Columbia? If the country where your document will be used is a Hague Convention member, you'll need a state apostille from the Secretary of State's office where the document was issued.

Issued by the U.S. federal government? If your destination country is a Hague Convention member, you'll need the U.S. Department of State Apostille from Washington, DC.

For destinations that are not Hague Convention members - whether your document is state or federal - the process is different: authentication and legalization instead of an apostille, involving authentication by the relevant government authority followed by legalization at the destination country's embassy or consulate.
